Hi, I’m Gifty! My love for cooking started in my grandmother’s sprawling kitchen in rural Ohio, where the scent of freshly baked bread and simmering stews was the backdrop of my childhood. I wasn’t just an observer; I was her little sous chef, standing on a stool to knead dough, snap green beans, and learn the secrets that weren’t written in any recipe book—a dash of this, a pinch of that, and a whole lot of love.

For years, I followed a more ‘practical’ path, working in a busy office where lunch was often a sad, pre-packaged affair. I found myself daydreaming about those kitchen moments, and my evenings became my sanctuary. I started cooking elaborate meals to de-stress, recreating my grandmother’s classics and experimenting with new flavors. My friends and colleagues started asking for my recipes, and I realized that the joy I found in creating a meal from simple, honest ingredients was something I desperately wanted to share.

That’s how Gifty’s Gourmet was born. This blog is my little corner of the internet where I share recipes that are comforting, achievable, and full of flavor. I believe that anyone can create amazing food in their own kitchen, without fancy gadgets or intimidating techniques. It’s about reconnecting with our food, celebrating the seasons, and creating moments of warmth and connection around the dinner table.

When I’m not in the kitchen testing a new sourdough starter or perfecting a pasta sauce, you can find me tending to my little herb garden, browsing local farmers’ markets for inspiration, or curled up with my golden retriever, Gus, and a well-loved cookbook. To me, it doesn’t mean complicated or expensive. It means food made with care, with good ingredients, and with a whole lot of heart. It’s the gourmet of the everyday kitchen.
